About Me

Hi, I’m Erin Christian, and the 2018-2019 school year will be my sixth at STEM School Highlands Ranch as an English teacher.  I always try to bring enthusiasm and passion to the classroom. I also founded and facilitated the school’s literary magazine, STEM Spirit; the high school newspaper, [insert name here]; and Allies in Diversity. My passion is contributing to school culture, and I have exercised this by arranging for a special event with Holocaust survivor Ben Lesser in 2014, organizing a bone marrow drive in honor of a student in need, and facilitating events such as the National Bullying Prevention Center’s Unity Day in October.

I received my B.A. in English Literature from Armstrong Atlantic State University and my MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Georgia, where I interned with The Georgia Review and the UGA Press. My short stories have been published in various journals, and I was nominated for a 2013 Pushcart Prize.

My skills as a creative writer impact the way I teach lessons, and I work passionately to tailor the way I teach to meet the needs of all students. My greatest joy is to see students grow both in confidence and proficiency. In my free time, I love exploring thrift shops and antique stores with my husband, reading, writing, and watching documentaries. Volunteering is another passion of mine, and I love working with Colfax Community Network, Art from Ashes, and Denver Writes, nonprofits in the Denver metro area. Also, I could talk forever about Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, or Dr. Who. Most of all, I hope to serve as an inspiration for my students and help them light their fires for learning.
