About me

Hi!  My name is Heather Dillon, and this is my second year at STEM School Highlands Ranch. I teach 7th and 8th grade language arts, as well as coordinating the gifted and talented program for 8th grade. I earned my BA from Metropolitan State University, with a major in English and a minor in mathematics.

I was born in California and moved to Colorado when I was in 8th grade. After graduating from high school, I studied electrical engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder for three semesters before realizing that what I really wanted to do was to teach. I finished an AA degree with an emphasis in psychology and began pursuing my BA in English. During that time, I met my husband, David. For our first seven years of marriage, we were both part-time students since David was studying at Denver Seminary to be a pastor. Between the two of us, we also held FIVE part-time jobs: my three being writing for a marketing company, tutoring college students in the writing center, and managing the office at our church. I taught English at Thornton High School for one year, and, after moving to Highlands Ranch, taught at ThunderRidge High School for three years. After the birth of our first son, I began substitute teaching in Douglas County and continued to do so for ten years while our two boys were in their early school years. After subbing at STEM School for a couple of years, I was drawn to its innovative and unique learning environment and decided it was a great opportunity to teach full-time once more.

This summer, our family enjoyed tent camping in both Colorado and California, taking a three-week road trip down the coast and back through the national parks in Utah. In my free time, I love to sing, bargain-shop, travel, cheer for the Broncos, and enjoy time with friends and family.
