I have always loved to draw. However, when I was in middle school I became frustrated with my own abilities and stopped drawing until late in high school. On the advice of a friend I took a drawing class. It changed the course of my life and changed me from an apathetic disgruntled teenager into an ambitious young adult with goals and aspirations. The saying goes that an artist doesn't choose art, it chooses them. I think that's true in my case. I went on to accept a scholarship in art. I received a BFA in painting from Kansas University. As an artist I've exhibited up and down the Front Range. Art gave me a purpose and direction.
I discovered teaching later in life. I received my certification from the University of Northern Colorado. It's my goal to inspire and encourage every student to do their best and discover the rewards of hard work through the creation of art. I believe art has more to teach us than just how to draw.
I've been teaching at STEM School Highlands Ranch since it's inception in 2011.
I enjoy art of all kinds, hiking with my family, grilling on a beautiful Colorado afternoon, playing with my kids, watching college hoops (rock chalk Jayhawk!) and of course, teaching young people about art.
