School Accountability Committee (SAC)

The School Accountability Committee (SAC) is an advisory committee for parents to provide insight about the school to the Board of Directors.
The SAC provides parents with an opportunity to connect with the school and provide oversight on various components of school operation.  Each year, SAC reviews the STEM Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) and develops priorities for the school administration.
The SAC is you!  It is the parents, teachers and community working together to keep STEM great.
All meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month in the Elementary School library from 6-8 p.m. Educating our children in partnership between families and educators, SAC is a great opportunity for you to be involved in your children's education. Meeting topics include:
  • Current School Issues
  • Unified Improvement Plan
  • Safety
  • Budget Priorities
  • Accredited Contract Advice
  • Community Feedback
  • Annual Community and BOE district reports
Colorado State Requirements
In Colorado, it is a statutory requirement for every school to have a School Accountability Committee (SAC). The purpose of SAC is to inform, encourage and provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school's instructional program and quality improvement processes. SAC makes recommendations concerning the school's performance, improvement, priority improvement or turnaround plan, and meets to discuss the implementation of the school's plan and other progress pertinent to the accreditation contract with the Board of Education.
Budget Recommendations
Finally, the SAC also makes recommendations to the principals for prioritizing school money spending. The principals consider the SAC recommendations regarding the spending of state, federal, local or private grants; and take them into account in formulating budgets requisitions for presentation to the Board of Directors. Finally decision-making authority rests with the principals or other person or group receiving the recommendation from SAC.

SAC is happy to welcome our new Community Representative, Susan Mays, to the SAC Committee.  Susan is our neighbor at Arcadis where she is the Director of Marketing and Communications.  We look forward to having Susan's expertise on board!  Susan says, "Integrated solutions to tough marketing, communications and sales challenges is what I love to do."  Please help us welcome her to the STEM community at the next SAC meeting on March 28, 6pm, in the Elementary School cafeteria.
